Sandra Vitaljic was born in Pula, Croatia in 1972. She graduated with an MFA in photography from the Academy of Performing Arts, Film and TV (FAMU) in Prague and completed her doctoral studies (PhD) in history and theory of photography at the same university. She is employed as associate professor at the Cinematography Department of the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb. She was awarded ArtsLink residence at the Ansel Adams Center for Photography in San Francisco (1997), a Fulbright fellowship at the Rochester Institute of Technology (2006/7), CCN Award in Graz (2013) and the first award at [email protected] – Award for Croatian Contemporary Art (2014). She published two books: Infertile Grounds (Eikon Studio, 2012) and War of Images – Contemporary war photography (Algoritam, 2013). She exhibited in Croatia and abroad in a number of solo and group exhibitions.
